What’s bugging you?

Ever since Grad school I have been a fanatic about organization.  My sweet hubby would get a chuckle out of that – but it is true.  I am constantly trying to improve everything I am involved in, from work, to chores, to things I love doing.

Notice I have a separate category for chores – they aren’t in my “things I love doing”.  But I’m still trying to get better at them.  The less number of steps to a task, and the simplier the steps the quicker it all goes.

I received a couple of great ideas from a chain email from a friend.  I usually delete chain emails immediately, (sorry) but kind of like “occupant” snail mail that gets tossed into the recycle bin never to make it in the door!  But this email got my attention.  (kinda like that sale from Pottery Barn).

One idea that I LOVE is after you fold bed sheets store the fitted and top sheet IN the matching pillow cases!

I did this but made it even better.  How?  by storing the sheets in the top of the closet of the bedroom they belong too.  My “linen” closet that is in the hallway at the top of the stairs is now my towel closet.

The next idea is a sure hit for anyone with longish hair.  Buy a magnetic strip and attach to an inside drawer of your bathroom cabinets.  No more searching for bobby pins and safety pins.

You can purchase this at any craft store.  Here it is in the bathroom drawer:

Clever.  If you have any organizational tips please pass them on and help a girl out!

Studio Makeover!

The best weekend ever is coming to an end.  It might be because I didn’t cook the entire weekend. (ha! not really, but…maybe a little).

Mark and Adam played in a tournament at Twin Creeks yesterday.  They didn’t play well but still had a great time hitting the links with Adam’s golf team and their Dad’s.  Rach and I took the opportunity to have a girl’s day at the Domain.  Shopping, lunch, more shopping.  Ahhhh.  I love me some Anthropologie and Forever21.

We then picked up the boys and went to the 8:00 showing of “The Hunger Games”.  It was a little adolescent, but I loved it.  The place was packed with tweens and teens and their reluctant parents!   I can’t wait until the sequel.

I woke this morning with the urgent need to feather my nest.  I was moving furniture around by 8:30, and by 10:00 had furniture in the back yard ready to paint.  Nothing major but I’ve been thinking about a studio makeover for some time and the design came together this morning.

I started painting a pair of mirrors I bought at TJMaxx about 12 years ago.  They were a dark wood stain but look so much better white!

I still need some final touches but the Makeup area is READY!  Here is the before shot:

Here is the after:

I still have to paint the second chair, and add a few accessories but I LOVE how it turned out!

I can’t wait to try it out next weekend!~

Spring Break…

Spring Break was last week and I still have that “I’m behind feeling”.  You know the one.  The one that wakes you up at 3:00 in the morning and all you can do is think about all you need to get done the next day.

One of my goals this year is to spend more time with the kids before they are gone.  One just turned 10 and the other will turn the dreaded 13 in June.  WOW.  To think my husband and I are thinking about college and cars.  Whew…I want to go back to bed.

But instead I’ll clue you in on a quiet extended weekend location.  The Guadalupe river in Canyon Lake, Texas.  We didn’t make it to the lake, spending our time in the treehouse we rented on the Guadalupe.  (Except for the shopping excursion trip Cindy and I worked in to Gruene, how much fishing can a girl take anyways?).

The kids fished, and canoed, and swam.  And played games and skipped rocks.  Some of the parents fished during the day, we talked about nothing drinking a nice blend at night, and sat quietly drinking our coffee by the water every morning.  It was heaven.   And only 90 minutes from Austin.  We will be back!

The family next door was staying for month!  They let us borrow their canoe.  What a hit.

Happy Wednesday!
